Redemtech Awarded First IDC G.R.A.D.E. Certification
Redemtech was one of the first to be certified among a select few companies in the world with IDC’s newly established Green Recycling and Asset Disposal for the Enterprise (G.R.A.D.E.) certification. The certification was given to only five organizations that exceeded the minimum criteria passing grade of 75 percent based on 34 IT Asset Disposal-related functions and tasks related to remote applications, onsite services, logistics, in-plant processing and post treatment. According to IDC, there are thousands of companies involved in the collection, treatment and marketing of retired IT assets. To learn more about the certification, read IDC Green Recycling and Asset Disposal for the Enterprise (G.R.A.D.E.) Certification. Details and a methodology summary can be found in IDC's recently released report, 2008 Assessment of U.S. IT Asset Disposal Service Providers (Doc #213383). | Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG) Selects Redemtech to Manage E-Waste |
Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG), the world’s largest manufacturer, seller and distributor of Pepsi-Cola beverages has selected Redemtech to manage its e-waste initiatives. Redemtech has been charged with developing and managing the company’s comprehensive asset recovery and disposition program with the goal of keeping PBG’s electronic assets out of the waste stream and from being sent overseas. Earlier this year, Redemtech helped PBG with its first Employee E-Waste Recycling Day, which brought in nearly 4,000 pounds of idle equipment – including laptops, CPUs, computer monitors, printers, cell phones, chargers, TVs, VCRs, and camcorders. Of the 214 units collected, 147 have been granted resell value. Half of the proceeds from the resale will be used to fund future PBG collection events or technology donations.

Redemtech Celebrates: A Ten-Year History of Responsible Asset Management
Environmental responsibility has been at the core of our business from the beginning. Since 1998, Redemtech has supported – and often helped develop – the best practices that define responsible e-waste management. In the process, we’ve processed hundreds of millions of pounds of material and erased nearly 36 billion megabytes of hard drive data. The impact: we’ve saved enough electricity to power nearly 430,000 U.S. homes for a year and reduced the greenhouse gas emissions the equivalent of removing nearly 300,000 (297,416) passenger cars from the road per year.

Redemtech Outlines Tips for Extending Computer Lifecycles and Staying Green
In honor of Earth Day, Redemtech released 10 Tips for Extending Computer Lifecycles and Reducing the Environmental Impact of Your Business. According to Redemtech research, increasing PC reuse from 39 percent to 48 percent would reduce carbon emissions by the equivalent of that produced by 462,000 passenger cars in a year and reduce solid waste equal to the weight of 2,490,000 bricks. These findings underscore the impact businesses could have on the environment by extending computer lifecycles.

Robert Houghton, President of Redemtech, Presents During the 2008 Healthcare CIO Summit
Redemtech recently participated in the CIO Healthcare Summit in Laguna Beach, Calif., where some of the most respected CIO decision-makers in U.S. healthcare came together to network and learn about challenges in the industry. Robert Houghton, Redemtech’s president and founder, presented a workshop on “Greening the Bottom Line: Creating Sustainable IT.” The presentation centered on why responsible approaches to IT asset management are not only good for the environment, but sound for business. Mr. Houghton also discussed how responsible computing practices can drive efficiencies in IT procurement and have positive budget impacts, while simultaneously reducing technology’s impact on the environment. In fact, attendees learned that a 9-percent increase in corporate reuse of PCs in the U.S. (equal with reuse in the rest of the world) could result in $2 billion in direct procurement savings.
