Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Redemtech Refurbished Computers with Windows XP Operating Systems
What makes Redemtech and the Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR) program different from other sources of used computers for sale?
Redemtech is a global leader in certified quality pre-owned computer equipment installed with Windows XP operating systems. MAR is a new program offered by Microsoft enabling Redemtech (and a few other select major refurbishers) to provide genuine Microsoft software on professionally refurbished computers. This eliminates the risk of buying wholesale used computers without these protections.
How do Redemtech and Microsoft define a refurbished computer?
A pre-owned PC that has gone through the thorough Redemtech process of complete data wiping, OEM level testing and any necessary repairs or upgrades plus the installation of certified, genuine Microsoft software (Windows XP operating systems). Refurbishment leaves the motherboard as is, or replaces a defective one with one of exactly the same make, model and specification. (Otherwise, replacing a motherboard results in a new PC and not a refurbished computer).
What about the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for refurbished computers is one supplied?
Yes. Specially designed COAs for refurbishment are provided. As part of the genuine Microsoft software license, the COA is affixed by Redemtech to the refurbished computer in a visible area. Each COA identifies Redemtech as a MAR.
What operating systems are included in MAR used computers?
Windows XP operating systems Home Edition and Windows XP Professional Edition are available in English, French and Spanish. Additional languages are planned for 2008.
Is media supplied for these used computers?
Yes. Redemtech supplies a Recovery Media pack with each PC. Recovery Media packs include a recovery media CD, EULA and outer wrap in a slim-line DVD case.
Is support for the Windows XP operating systems provided?
Yes, Web-based support is available from Microsoft free of charge. Additional support is available from Microsoft on a fee-per-incident support basis.
Does the hardware from these used computers come with a warranty?
Yes, Redemtechs refurbished equipment is guaranteed to be operational for 90 days from the invoice date. Redemtech will refund defective products under warranty.
When will Windows Vista be covered by the MAR program for used computers?
The MAR program is designed primarily for Windows XP to extend the life of established Window XP operating systems or to offer this benefit to organizations that do not have enterprise license agreements and/or cannot purchase more genuine Microsoft software licenses. Windows Vista is not similarly offered across the board because many refurbished computers, typically 3 to 4 years old, are not capable of running the latest software versions, such as Vista.
However, if a refurbished PC has the necessary technical specifications to run Windows Vista, you can upgrade from Windows XP to Vista or any future releases of the Windows operating system software at an upgrade cost only.
Is this the only licensing program for refurbished computers?
No. A Community MAR program for charities, schools and other eligible community users is available around the world. This program allows refurbishers to install select Windows XP operating systems for eligible recipients. In February of 2006, Redemtech became the first commercial Community MAR in North America and now offers free asset recovery and recycling services on all donated equipment at end-of-life. There is also the Fresh Start for Donated Computers program that provides licenses directly to schools that have received donated PCs.
