Redemtech Institutes New Recycling Processes

Columbus, Ohio (June 28, 2006)Redemtech, a leading provider of Technology Change Management (TCM) services, today announced it is implementing enhanced recovery and reuse processes to reduce the number of components to be recycled. The new processes allow the company to salvage components that would otherwise be scrapped, reducing electronic waste (e-waste) volume and increasing parts availability for refurbishing programs.

“One of the primary missions of our business is to reduce the environmental and social impact of end-of-life electronics,” said Robert Houghton, president and founder of Redemtech. “These changes support that mission by ensuring every usable component of an otherwise unusable computer system, laptop or server is salvaged. Those components, in turn, support refurbishing programs that promote reuse and extend equipment life.”

Redemtech provides computer recycling and refurbishing service through its international network of TCM Centers, including facilities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe. The company processes more than 2 million assets annually and will now approve only “combination” downstream partners for e-waste processing.

Combination processors are able to provide both de-manufacturing and shredding-separation-refining services so that end-of-life materials have useful parts recovered before the balance of materials are processed for final recycling. Redemtech has identified five partners capable of meeting the new requirements, providing the capacity required to make the change effective immediately.

“We want to drive the industry toward increased re-use of their technology assets and encourage all computer recyclers to review their processes to ensure no usable components are unnecessarily or prematurely entering the waste stream” Houghton said.

Redemtech adheres to a strict zero-export, zero-landfill policy that exceeds all regulatory requirements and is in compliance with best practices defined by the Basel Action Network (BAN) and Silicon Valley Toxic Coalition. Redemtech is a signatory of The Electronics Recycler's Pledge of True Stewardship, which imposes the world’s most rigorous criteria for e-waste recycling, and its environmental management program is ISO 14001 certified.
