Redemtech is an outsource leader in TCM (Technology Change Management) solutions that is revolutionizing IT asset recovery, data security and computer recycling for major, privacy regulated companies worldwide.

Redemtech Environmental Policy

The Redemtech Environmental Policy is founded on the basic principle of “reuse first, recycle second.” We make every effort possible to find a market for all working equipment. Products beyond their useful life or marketability are broken down to component level for reuse/recycling according to and exceeding all federal, state, local and international regulations.

One of the goals of the Redemtech Environmental Program is to ensure adherence to all applicable environmental-related regulations. To accomplish this and our other environmental goals, we must first ensure that the practices and procedures within our TCM (Technology Change Management) Centers are in accordance with U.S. and international governmental standards. Strict procedural scrutiny must then extend to all our recycling partners through an established vetting program which provides proof that no electronic waste is being land-filled or sent to developing countries. Landfill avoidance is the number-one measurable of the Redemtech Environmental Program, and it is monitored monthly.

Because the overall environmental landscape is in a constant state of change, another Redemtech goal is to continuously improve our Environmental Program. Maintaining an effective program no longer equates to keeping things as they are indefinitely or at the bare minimum. New regulations, requirements and information will continue to come to the forefront of an increased global awareness of the environment. To be effective and best serve the welfare and reputations of our customers and everyone associated with Redemtech, our Environmental Program must keep pace with the changing times.

Redemtech’s commitment is to maintain a position on the leading edge of environmental advocacy, one that exceeds the current standards in place by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and corporate governance today. To that end, in 2004 Redemtech became a signatory of The Electronics Recycler's Pledge of True Stewardship. The Pledge commits us to uphold the world’s most rigorous environmental and social criteria for the handling of electronic waste. In 2005 Redemtech once again set an important environmental advocacy standard – successfully completing implementation of our Environmental Management System (EMS) by achieving ISO 14001 registration. Redemtech’s Environmental Program is the foundation on which our EMS was built.

To maintain our position of advocacy we must stay as informed as possible as a company and simultaneously inform and train all Redemtech associates about new programs, regulations and risks to the organizations that we have been entrusted to support. We must continue to accept the responsibilities of environmental stewardship, which include making certain that our operation as well as that of our end-materials refiners meet best practices and that no harmful materials from technology enter the waste stream. And we must continue to ensure that our Ecosure Assured Recycling practice remains the global standard for responsible end-of-life IT disposal.

To remain effective, goals must be monitored. To monitor our environmental goals, we have put in place the following processes and controls:

  • Use of Redemtech’s Retrac Process Automation to provide complete documentation and tracking for all assets
  • Stringent recycling vendor/broker vetting process that includes due diligence, downstream vendor vetting, financial reviews, customer reference checks, EPA violation research and unannounced site visits
  • Documented policies and procedures within Redemtech TCM Centers to maintain an environmentally friendly workplace
  • Associate training on all environmental processes and procedures
  • Associate task force meetings centered on environmental concerns
  • Annual environmental audits
  • Environmental information board to inform associates of related environmental news and how the company is performing relative to our targets and objectives
  • Email process for any Redemtech associate to raise an environmental issue easily
  • Database to log the issues raised through the email program
  • Corrective action process and forms used to explore the root cause of an issue and to ensure a proper solution has been realized and enacted
  • Quarterly executive meeting to review all environmental issues that have been raised, Redemtech’s current approved vendor list and Redemtech’s overall program and policy

The EPA has classified computer and computer-related products as electronic scrap, which is regarded as hazardous in the waste stream. As a Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator of hazardous waste, Redemtech is not required to obtain EPA identification numbers. However, to help maintain our strong commitment to the environment, we have voluntarily applied for and obtained ID numbers for our Ohio, Nevada and Richmond TCM Centers and will do so for future processing facilities as well. The EPA ID number for our Ohio TCM Center is OHR000137141; the EPA ID number for our Nevada TCM Center is NVR000078998; the EPA ID number for our Virginia TCM Center is VAR000510750.

Our commitment is to maintain a strong and forward-looking Environmental Program that protects the interests of our community and our customers. We strive to run that program beyond EPA standards. By holding ourselves to extremely high standards for environmental adherence, we believe we are providing, and will continue to able to provide for, a higher level of security and social responsibility for everyone associated with Redemtech, including the customers who have placed their faith in us to manage their assets and liabilities responsibly.

E-Scrap News 2007 Processor Survey

E-scrap processors in the U.S. and Canada handle data security in a number of different ways (some less reliable than others) and are exporting more materials, particularly circuit boards. Among other salient findings of the study: resale values continue to decline, circuit board values are rising and the costs of logistics and competition among processors are primary challenges.
